As winter approaches there are thousands of unfortunate individuals and families who would value and treasure a blanket to protect them from the cold.
The Rotary International clubs of Gauteng and Cresta Shopping Centre are combining their efforts to run a mass blanket drive on the weekend of 1st – 2nd June 2013 at Woolworths Courts.
Our target as Cresta Shopping Centre is to raise 3000 blankets at a cost of R50 - per blanket.

On March 21 (Human Rights Day), Cresta Shopping Centre will be partnering with Stop Hunger Now Southern Africa (SHN SA) to package 20 000 meals for needy preschools in Gauteng.
We are challenging our shoppers in joining us to help more children access one of the fundamental rights, the right to basic nutrition.
On the day, SHN SA will be requiring 50 volunteers to help package the meals. SHN SA will also be appealing to shoppers to contribute R15 to fund 6 meals (at R2.50 a meal) at the event.

3. No director, member, partner, employee, agent, consultant, promoter, supplier or anybody directly or indirectly involved in this competition and any spouse, life partner, immediate family member, business partner or associate of such person is allowed to participate.
4. The competition runs from 14 March 2013 to 29 April 2013. No late entries will be accepted.
5. To enter the competition participants need to spend a minimum of R500 or more at any store in Cresta Shopping Centre before 29 April 2013 where they are eligible to receive an entry into the draw to stand a chance to win a trip for two to Pari, exact prize details are available at www.crestashoppingcentre.co.za. Qualifying entries can also collect a Cresta branded Pashima or bag at our validation station. Gifts limited to 100 per day and only one gift per customer.
6. The winner will be randomly drawn and the draw will take place on 6 May 2013. Managements’ decision is final and the prize/s is not exchangeable for cash or a different travel package and in non – transferable.
7. All entrants must be in the possession of a valid passport, and must be available for travel during September 2013. The prize – winner will be notified by e-mail or telephone, by no later than 6 May 2013.
8. In the event of Cresta Marketing not being able to contact the winner within 72 hours of the draw, the Marketing Team reserves the right to draw another winner.
9. Participants and winner absolve Cresta Shopping Centre, its affiliates, its advertising agencies, advisors, suppliers, nominated agents and dealers from liability from any and all claims howsoever arising, including from willful misconduct or negligent acts or omissions on the part of any such person.
10. Cresta Shopping Centre reserves the right to alter or cancel the competition at its discretion, without recourse.
11. By participating in this competition, all participants agree to be bound by these official rules. Cresta Shopping Centre’s decision regarding any matter arising out of the competition shall be final and binding. No correspondence will be entered into.

Cresta's Amphitheatre will come alive with a Classic Christmas production to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas "Puppeteers, ballerinas, snowman, toy soldiers and many more..."
Bring the family, grandma and grandpa to enjoy Carols by Candle light and Santa's Arrival. Santa will also make his rounds to meet his fans, read some letter and take photographs.
Combining their vocal talents Tshidi from "SA Idols season 8", Elvis Blue and the amazing Mzansi Youth Choir will perform classic Christmas carols that all can sing along.
Candles will also be available to purchase from The Lions Club, Weltevreden on the day at R5 each and R20 for four. |

Mandela Day on the 18th July is not only a special day for South Africa, but a global event as the world celebrates the life and times of this elder statesman. To honour Madiba, Cresta Shopping Centre is inviting the community to leave a personal birthday message for him and make a small donation of R10 towards Cresta's charity.
Although not everyone is able to offer a full 67 minutes to charity work on Mandela Day, Cresta invites you to lend a helping hand and make a difference as we aim to raise a minimum of R10 000 at our Pledge Wall. On Saturday 30 July 2011 Cresta Shopping Centre will be hosting a full day launch event in their Barnyard courtyard and outside amphitheatre to see off a group of motorcyclists on a trip entitled the Journey Back, Journey Forward. The group, comprising three generations of the Robinson family as well as friends, will be embarking on a motorbike journey that will leave Cresta Shopping Centre on 05 August 2011 at 5am to traverse parts of the African Continent as far as Uganda for 30 days before returning to South Africa. This Journey Back, Journey Forward is in part being undertaken in support of breast cancer awareness and the group are hoping to raise R 1 MILLION for the cause. All proceeds will be donated to Journey of Hope, an institution that strives to create awareness around the importance of early detection of breast cancer, and provides support to people with breast cancer in less fortunate areas.

Visiting the Centre's Banking Court one will see a rainbow of polished gemstones; crystals, crystal formations and mineral specimens – for both casual and serious collectors alike. Other fascinating displays in this area will include ammonite, trilobite and fish fossils; geodes, meteorite pieces and dinosaur eggs. There will be numerous books on the topic of gems and minerals, educational packs for children, as well as a display of gem cutting equipment.
Also located here will be a scratch patch filled to the brim with tumbled stones of all colours and varieties.
Visiting the Centre's other courts, one will find a wide array of gemstone jewellery ranging from bold African styles, to classic Victorian, to elegant contemporary designs. From hand-crafted silver pieces set with gems, and delicate freshwater pearl ear-rings; all the way to bold bead necklaces and items fashioned from semi-precious stone, pewter, mother of pearl and coral – such will be the variety. New to this year’s show will be a unique range of stylish jewellery items fashioned from recycled porcelain. This will be exhibited in the Centre's Jet court.
Visitors can also examine numerous displays of gemstone ornamental items ranging from agate clocks, gemstone trees, gemstone eggs and spheres; to quartz crystal lamps, trinket boxes and rock carvings.

Every day we will be going to air telling the listener what they need to do prove that they have soccer Soul in the lead up to 2010 FIFA World Cup. Everyday will be a different theme. Examples of ‘themes’ are explained below:
A KIA Soul will be fitted with video cameras and driven around the city and set-up in various locations (Schools, shopping centres, KIA dealerships).
Listeners are told to get down to the location, and show us their soccer Soul by performing that day’s task in front of the camera.
Every day a video montage will be made and hosted on highveld.co.za .The video will feature a selection of entrants of the day.
The on air presenter will throw forward to a daily crossing to the venue of the shoot. The purpose is an update on what is happening and to drive more footfalls to the shoot.
Every day during the shoot RAW team will choose the category / theme of the day.
Example:
a. We are looking for you to go down and show us your soccer Soul by doing your war cry (German, English, South African, Argentinean, Brazilian etc). These are examples we will use to lead the listeners into participating – they would however still be able to participate if they want to do their own ‘thing’.
b. we’re looking for the best dressed
c. the best song
d. the best dance
e. the best blowing of a vuvuzela etc
6. Everybody who goes down and enters at the shoot will be entered into a draw at the end of the campaign for the brand-new Kia Soul.

19th SAKKS National Koi Show
The South African Koi Keeper's Society will be hosting it's 19th National Koi Show on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th May. The event, to take place in the parking area outside of entrance 2 at Cresta Shopping Centre, will open from 9am to 5pm on the Saturday and from 9am to 3pm on the Sunday. Koi enthusiasts and the general public alike will have the chance to see some of our country's finest Koi at this annual show and competition.
This will be South Africa's largest Koi event of the year.
In addition to the ponds showcasing Koi entries of all sizes and varieties, will be various dealer ponds. There will also be exhibitions of Koi related products such as garden ponds, biological filter systems, pond accessories; fish foods and medications; books on Koi and various Koi mementoes.
The event will allow the public the opportunity to learn about Koi and the Koi hobby through members of the South African Koi Keeper's Society who'll be on hand to provide expert advice and answer any Koi related queries on a one to one basis.
Says Kevin Till (Chairperson of the South African Koi Keeper's Society), “The 19th SAKKS National Koi Show is an event for the entire family. We'll even have a children's corner where little ones can learn all about Koi in a fun and interactive way whilst mums and dads are browsing. We're expecting a record crowd this year.”
The Koi entries showcased will be judged by some of the finest international Koi minds in the world from China, Japan, Holland, UK and USA.
Participating in this year's event will be the Japanese Embassy, that's currently celebrating it's 100th centenary of relations with South Africa. This year's show will take on a Japanese theme and feature various Japanese cultural displays. A special guest at the show opening will be the Ambassador of Japan.
The entry fee for the Koi show is R20 for adults and R10 for pensioners and children under the age of 12.

Global Hyundai Goodwill Ball road show for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ gets rolling in SA
As football fever builds, 2010 FIFA World Cup™ partner Hyundai will proudly launch the Hyundai Goodwill Ball road show, a signature Hyundai programme and a popular feature of all major football tournaments since EURO 2000, in Johannesburg on 28 January 2010.
32 gigantic four-meter high Hyundai Goodwill Balls representing all the qualifying nations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ will be on display in Hyundai Park at Mushroom Farm Park where prominent South Africans, country ambassadors, FIFA representatives and government officials will inscribe the first messages before the balls leave to tour their respective countries and inspire the hopes and passion of football fans all over the world.
All 32 Goodwill Balls will end their voyages back in Johannesburg in May, when a great celebration will take place just before the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ kicks off. The balls will then follow their teams and the messages will be on display at matches. “The Hyundai Goodwill Balls have become a symbol of pride, hope, passion and the uniting power of football the world over, and it is an honour to now bring that legacy to South Africa for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™” says CEO of Hyundai South Africa, Alan Ross.
Radio host Jeremy Mansfield, Watershed musician Craig Hinds and football legend Jomo Sono are included in the line-up of famous faces who will be among the first people in the world to inscribe the South African Goodwill Ball. Pupils from Sefikeng Primary School in Kyalami will represent the youth of South Africa as the first children to sign the ball before it leaves on a national tour starting in Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton City on 30 January.
Popular South African band Watershed will perform live at the launch as they debut their new single, ‘United by the World’, commissioned by Hyundai for the Goodwill Ball tour. The tune is set to become a popular anthem for South Africa in 2010 and will be the first single to be released from Watershed’s latest album, One Million Faces, due to be launched in April this year. Written by talented lead singer, Craig Hinds, the song inspires and encourages all South Africans to unite behind the national team and country ahead of the biggest sporting event to hit South Africa’s shores.
As the South African Hyundai Goodwill Ball makes its way across the country, it will stop at major centres and events enabling fans to write their own messages of goodwill for the national team, the nation and the world. What is the FIFA Interactive World Cup?
The FIFA Interactive World Cup (FIWC) is the world's largest football gaming tournament. Players from all around the world compete, hoping to qualify for the Grand Final and ultimately be crowned the new FIFA Interactive World Champion.
Last year FIFA, along with its Presenting Partners Electronic Arts (EA) and PlayStation, witnessed over 10,000 players compete at 19 Live Qualifier Events held across the globe, whilst a staggering 515,000 players picked up their PlayStation®3 controllers and went head-to-head on the EA SPORTS™ FIFA09 pitch as they tried to claim one of the 13 available Online Qualification spots.
After the qualification season that ran from October 2008-May 2009 ended, 32 virtual players were left holding a ticket to Barcelona's Grand Final. These 32 gamers had proved themselves as some of the world's best virtual football players by qualifying for the FIWC09 Grand Final via either the online or Live Qualification modes. In Barcelona, it was 22 year old Frenchman Bruce Grannec who was eventually crowned the FIFA Interactive World Champion 2009.
The highly anticipated FIWC10 season kicks off on 2nd October 2009 with a few changes to the qualification format from last year. As a result of the huge online numbers recorded in FIWC09, 21 Grand Final spots have now been allocated to the Online Qualification, resulting in a reduction of Live Qualifier Events. A total of 10 Live Qualifier Events will be held across the globe between October 2009 and May 2010.
The Online Qualification for FIWC10 will also be structured slightly differently from previous years, with the introduction of two seasons. The first season will run from 2 October through to 18th December, whilst the second season will run from 4 January 2010 through to 31 March 2010. This exciting new structure to the online mode is set to add greater intensity to the games over a shorter period of time, whilst providing players with a greater chance of qualifying for the Grand Final!

| National Final of MTN/Cence Entrepreneurial Competiton |

MTN, in partnership with Consumer Education through National Collaborative Enablement (CENCE), is sponsoring a major project in four provinces to develop entrepreneurial awareness amongst learners in the rural areas. The project, aptly named Kgwebo ya Batsha or Young Entrepreneurs, has been launched in June in the Free State, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West. More than sixty primary and secondary schools have been selected to participate in a roll-out programme that includes market days, provincial and national competitions.
An estimated 36 000 learners from grade 4 tot grade 11 levels now have the opportunity to enter. Those who participate will be given people and business skills to start their own businesses. Four coordinators representing the four provinces have already attended a four day workshop to assist schools and their participating learners. Educators and principals from the designated schools will be trained as facilitators during the July school holidays to render the necessary guidance. Curriculum and subject advisors have also been invited to assess the practical application of the learner’s guide in the ESM and BS classroom situations.
The MTN sponsorship from its Foundation Fund provides for a number of prizes, ranging from R1 000,00 to R4 500,00, that will be awarded to the winning entries and schools. Learners can enter in four categories, namely production, retail, services and entertainment. Those who win through to the provincial competition will receive seed capital to open their own bank accounts and generate a profit. The entries who reach the finals will be invited to a gala occasion in Gauteng at the end of February, 2010. They will be given the opportunity to display their businesses and sell their goods at a prominent shopping centre as part of the final adjudication.
If the project meets with the expectations of the sponsor, more schools will be added to the selection list in 2010.

Randburg Sun’s Photo of the Week competition has grown in leaps and bounds since its humble beginning in 2007.
Each week readers submit photographs to the Randburg Sun to be entered into the weekly photo competition. While being open to amateur photographers only, the competition has resulted in some incredible images.
Readers have used the competition as a creative outlet to share holidays, special moments, personal interests and points of view with Randburg Sun readers. The Randburg Sun is enormously grateful, and waits in eager anticipation of new entries.
The competition opens every Monday at 1pm and closes the following Monday at 12.59pm. This means that while your photo may not win one week, should you re-enter the same photograph the following week, it may turn out the winner.
There have been an astonishing variety of entries from children, grandparents and every age group in between; from men, women, parents, students, working professionals and home executives of every race and creed. From readers who have only just ventured into the world of digital photography, to others who have been experimenting for years. Some people enter once, others send in a number of photos every week.
In 2009 the newspaper introduced monthly themes for the competition, which have proved immensely popular, and will be carried through to 2010’s competition.
Each week the winning photo is printed onto an A2 canvas (sponsored by Photo2art) and given to the winner. At the end of the competition the canvases are returned to the Randburg Sun for a public exhibition, and for the overall winners to be chosen. After the prize-giving the canvases are returned to their owners.
This year 2009’s 48 winning canvases will be on display in the Barnyard forecourt at Cresta Shopping Centre from 23 to 28 February, followed by an award evening of fun and prizes at Cresta Barnyard on 1 March.
Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, which are judged by local professional photographers, while the Readers’ Choice Award is voted for by readers. Thank you very much to all who have supported the Photo of the Week competition during the last few years.

Talk Radio 702 searches for the biggest brain
13 February 2010
Time to get your thinking caps on as Talk Radio 702 embarks on its annual campaign to search for 702’s ‘brainiest’ listener.
The Brain of 702 with Sanlam is back and this year listeners will have to bowl the quizmasters over with their general knowledge skills in order to claim their share of nearly R400 000 in prize money.
The Brain of 702 pits two listeners against each other live on-air as they answer as many questions as possible in 60 seconds. Six games will be played each day and, based on a knock-out structure, each winner from each game will bag R1000 a round. The last standing winner of the day will be selected on the David O’ Sullivan show.
The week’s daily winners will have to continue to outsmart each other during the quarter finals held each week at designated shopping centers – Jabulani Mall (6th February), Cresta Shopping Centre (13th February), Menlyn Park (20th February) and the finals at Sandton City (27th February). The winners of these rounds go home with R5 000 and vouchers to spend at the shopping centre.
These will be broadcast live on Talk Radio 702 at 11am on each of the Saturday mornings. A wildcard round will also be played at 10am and the winner will participate in the quarter finals live on 702.
Listeners are encouraged to visit their nearest shopping centre to not only watch this nail-biting competition but also meet their favourite presenter and other station personnel.
Talk Radio 702 presenters will act as quiz masters and judges. The questions will be carefully selected and scripted, ensuring that each participant receives questions of a similar length and along related themes. The questions will be chosen from various categories including history, geography, travel, entertainment and science.
The competition will be run simultaneously on sister station 567 CapeTalk and culminates in the Brain of Brains on Monday, 28th February. 1) Please note this is a demarcated play area with adult supervision and not a 'Day Care Centre'
2) Children between 3 - 10 years of age welcome
3) Children are not allowed to use this facility for a period longer than 2 hours at any given time
4) The parent/guardian that books in the child/children is deemed the 'responsible party'. The child/children will only be released to this person.
5) An indemnity form to be completed by the parent/guardian at this point before access is allowed

The true meaning of Christmas brought to you in the ultimate Christmas production of 2009 by Nádine, one of the most popular female artists in South Africa.
Combining her vocal talents with those of children together they bring to you an amazing Christmas production filled with music and amazing decorations.
The show consists of well-known Christmas songs & Carols, guest appearances by 7 year old Tyllin Barnard and the talented 13 year old John Perkins as well as the Bagpipe player Donovan Margoczy and the young violinist Maretha Vorster. The Ekurhuleni children’s choir, plus tumblers and
acrobats make this an unforgettable experience.

That magical time of year when Santa will make his rounds at Cresta Shopping Centre, has come 'round once more. The man in red will arrive in the centre's Amphitheatre on Friday 11th December at 5pm. Children, mums and dads are invited to come along and share in this delightful occasion when Santa will meet and greet his fans, hand out sweets and listen to all those special Christmas wishes.
Prior to his arrival will be tons of fun activities to keep little ones entertained. Whilst a kiddies carousel ride and a jumping castle are certain to provide some thrills and laughter; stilt walkers, face painters and other colourful characters will entertain children from 4pm.

Following Santa's arrival will be an exciting Christmas variety show from 7pm to 8:30pm. The evening's highlight will unfold as South African singing sensation, Nadine graces the stage presenting the ultimate Christmas production.
Together with the Ekurhuleni Children’s Choir, Nadine will dazzle audiences with a superb Carols show featuring popular numbers such as “Jingle Bells”, “Joy to the World”, “First Noël”, “Silent Night”, “Little Drummer Boy”, and an array of other heart-warming carols. Audiences will of course be invited to sing along.
Candles for the delightful evening of carols will be sold by the Weltevreden LIONS Association. This evening of festive entertainment is not to be missed!

For three hours, and three hours only, on Friday 27th November visitors to Cresta Shopping Centre will get to experience something unique and phenomenal when shop windows throughout the centre literally come to life. From 6pm to 9pm that wispy line between fantasy and reality will fade allowing a host of enchanting beings to enter our world and inhabit store windows, transforming the centre into a splendid world of all surreal.

Cresta Shopping Centre – Bon Appetit to Customer Service!
With an aim to sustain service excellence at its numerous restaurants, Cresta Shopping Centre has launched a special programme aimed at food lovers! Patrons are encouraged to support this programme by rating the services of their waiters and waitresses via SMS.
The information received by the Centre’s valued patrons will help restaurant managers and owners to monitor, create, sustain and where necessary, boost service levels.
Each waiter or waitress will be wearing a name tag and one can SMS the word
“serve” to 8765, together with the name of the restaurant, the name of the waiter/waitress, and a score from 1 to 10 for their service delivery – with 1 being the poorest and 10 being the best.
The waiter or waitress with the highest scores will win R10 000. A lucky nominator will also win a whopping R10 000 via a computed lucky draw. This initiative will take place during the months of July, August and September.
